VCT vs FleetCheck

FleetCheck is a broad fleet management system with strong operator licence and PMI tools. VCT is narrower: it keeps MOTs, road tax, daily checks and defects in order for small and mid-sized UK fleets, on a monthly plan with no contract.

Checked October 2026 against FleetCheck's own website.

Price

What each costs a month

VCT has one plan with everything in it: £3.50 per vehicle a month, falling to £2.50 per vehicle for bigger fleets (minimum £35 a month). FleetCheck charges per vehicle, with a minimum charge based on 10 vehicles. We've compared VCT with FleetCheck's Essential plan (£4 per vehicle a month), which adds live MOT and road tax data, and its Professional plan (£6 per vehicle a month), which adds operator licence features and pool vehicle management.

Where they differ

Breadth against focus

FleetCheck covers far more ground. Beyond vehicles and drivers it handles operator licence compliance, workshop PMI inspections, equipment and MHE assets, training and medical records, budgeting and integrations with fuel cards and telematics. A transport manager running an O-licence fleet gets one system for most of the job.

VCT does fewer things and keeps them simple. Every night it checks each vehicle's road tax with DVLA and its MOT or HGV annual test with DVSA. Drivers do their daily walkaround check on their phone. Anything red or amber becomes work with an owner in the work queue. When an insurer or auditor asks, the compliance pack PDF pulls it all together.

Which one

Which suits your fleet

Choose FleetCheck if…

You hold an operator licence and want O-licence and PMI tools in the same system. You need integrations with fuel cards or telematics, hundreds of prebuilt reports, or automatic licence checks today. You're happy with a 36-month contract, or you'd like a free trial before you commit.

Choose VCT if…

Your main job is keeping vans, cars and trucks road legal: MOT, tax, daily checks and defects fixed. You want MOT and tax data on every plan, text reminders for drivers and one compliance pack PDF. You'd rather pay monthly with no contract, at £35 for up to 10 vehicles.

Being straight about it. VCT doesn't schedule PMI inspections, manage an operator licence, analyse tachographs or track Driver CPC. If you need those, FleetCheck or a similar system is the better choice. More on what VCT covers for trucks on the HGV fleet compliance page.
Switching

Moving across is quick

Export your vehicles as a CSV and upload it to VCT. Before anything is saved, VCT shows which vehicles are new, what changes on existing ones and which rows have a problem. Once imported, every vehicle is checked with DVLA and DVSA, so the MOT and tax dates are current from day one. We'll help with the import if you'd like.

Questions

VCT vs FleetCheck FAQs

Is VCT cheaper than FleetCheck?

At the fleet sizes we compared, yes. VCT costs £3.50 per vehicle a month, falling to £2.50 per vehicle for bigger fleets (minimum £35 a month), ex VAT. FleetCheck's Essential plan is £4 per vehicle a month and Professional is £6, with a minimum charge based on 10 vehicles. FleetCheck's prices are based on a 36-month contract; VCT is monthly with no contract.

Does VCT do automatic driving licence checks?

Not yet. Today you record licence checks and consent in VCT, drivers can share their DVLA check code from the driver app, and VCT shows when each check is due. Automatic licence checking with DVLA is coming soon. FleetCheck offers licence checks through LicenceAssured at £3.50 per check.

Does VCT manage operator licences or PMI inspections?

No. VCT does not schedule PMI or safety inspections or manage an operator licence. FleetCheck covers both, with O licence features on its Professional plan and its Technician add-on for workshop inspections. If those are what you need most, FleetCheck is the better fit.

Can I try VCT before I pay?

VCT doesn't offer a free trial. Instead, enter a registration and your email on the homepage and we'll send you a link to a live demo with your own vehicle looked up with DVLA and DVSA. FleetCheck offers a free trial for fleets of 10 or more vehicles.

Can I move from FleetCheck to VCT?

Yes. Export your vehicle list as a CSV and import it into VCT. VCT shows a preview of exactly what will change before anything is saved, then checks every vehicle with DVLA and DVSA.
